Brainspa’s software teaches the brain to reset the pain signaling system which can lead to pain medication reduction.
by Kristy Jenkins, MS
At 54, George never liked taking medications; he felt too young. It started with a diabetes medication and eventually his doctor added a daily aspirin. George understood that these were necessary so he never complained, but that all changed the day he was driving home from work and was hit by someone who ran a stop sign.
The ER would only give him Norco for the pain, but it wasn’t enough. George went to his Primary doctor for follow up care and was given a prescription for OxyContin and a referral to an orthopedic surgeon.
That was three years ago. George still experienced intense pain and his daily Oxy dose was now much higher. He was depressed because he was unable to work and felt useless to his family. George had to do something different so he began therapy.
George’s therapist knew that neurofeedback would support her work with George so she referred him to BrainSpa. After 8 visits, George was significantly less depressed and his doctor decreased his Oxy dosage. After 16 visits, George was forgetting to take is afternoon Oxy so they lowered the dosage again.
Today, George reports that he is not experiencing depression, takes a new pain medication at a much lower dose, and he is back to work! George’s brain learned how to reset his chronic pain levels moment by moment so it’s now easier to manage with a low dosage.
*Never reduce or stop taking medications without first discussing this with the prescribing physician
